Colts Ain't No Joke

Sunday was a huge AFC showdown between the AFC leading Indianapolis Colts and a team playing for a Wild Card spot, the Kansas City Chiefs. In recent years when these two teams play each other it has been the other way around. The AFC leading Kansas City Chiefs vs either the shitshow Indianapolis Colts, or wildcard hopeful Indianapolis Colts, depending on which year you want to look at. Which is why this year it has been hard for me to totally buy into this Colts team actually being good. They keep winning games, some blowouts and some close, but
haven't played any of the recent AFC powerhouses. So I keep thinking alright if they can win next week I'll think they're legit. And it is why I keep respecting the Chiefs because we all know who they are and what they've accomplished in recent years. And the Chiefs are 5-5, have to win, coming off a brutal division loss vs the Broncos, and playing a team sitting pretty the Colts. I thought absolutely no way in hell the Chiefs would lose this game or it even be close.

And well. I was wrong. The Colts honestly dominated for 70% of the game. The defense showed up and showed out. Latu had an early interception on Mahomes inside their own 5 yard line leading to a touchdown. They kept stopping them around the redzone and making the Chiefs settle for field goals. Daniel Jones followed up the first touchdown with another drive dicing up the Chiefs defense for easy short passing gains play after play. Taylor never got going to the standards we are used to from him but you don't need to when the defense is ballin and Jones is dealing. Man these colts look LEGIT! Up 20-9 at the end of the third quarter, with the ball, against the Chiefs dynasty.
Until they weren't legit. The offense ended up in the 4th quarter/OT having the ball 4 more times. And all 4 times, had 3 and outs. Unacceptable. Of course the Chiefs are too good to do that against, but up 11 in the 4th to take it to OT. At home, in a must win game, I don't even care what happens after that cause this game was over then. You can't let a team that good back into the game, you can't. I don't know if it was partly the Colts finding out they're legit in real time and a sense of "holy shit we might actually win this game" or "we might win the Super Bowl" like I started thinking. One way or another though this game turned and the Chiefs scored a FG in OT to win by 3.
The way the game went. It is easy to think the Colts blew it and could have been the 1 seed and bla bla bla. But who cares about home field. We almost went into Arrowhead and won on the road. We dominated most of the game in fact. The Colts dominated most of the game against a 3 time Super Bowl winning team, at their home stadium, in a must win game. If they have 1 good drive out of 4 they win that game, and I'll take my chances in knowing that's the change. Steichen and Jones needed a big game like this to take information away from, they got it, they go back and win next time. As my brother said, "I am more confident now than I was going into the game that we can beat them", and I agree. As Mac Miller once said, "Turn the ignition, I'm drivin and sittin pretty". Well the Colts are in the drivers seat, sitting pretty. This teams legit, and the Colts might be bringing a title to a city still hurting from the NBA Finals.
